"I have not left acting but have not taken on as much work as I did in my younger days. I have continued to mentor young people in the acting space, and I believe helping the next generation is important," he told ZiMoja.

He has returned on television playing General Moeti, a powerful politician who wants to run for deputy president on the Showmax Original, Empini. He took on the role due to the show exposing what happens in politics. "I'm interested in how it shows the public that these people are supposed to be serving us, not the other way around," he said. "This character is more stoic. He has spent time in caves and holes, sometimes drinking dirty water to survive. He has witnessed so much and is very calculating."

He acts alongside Siyabonga Thwala, who plays Khaya Bhodoza, whom he met in theatre. "The first time I saw him, he was a tiny little boy; we were doing industrial theatre. He was playing a naughty type of young man," Owen said. "That's where he really built himself. We travelled the whole country." He added that it's always nostalgic when he looks at Siyabonga and remembers those days. "Now he's grown and he's a husband. A few weeks ago, we were talking, and he said, 'You know, bra Owen, as you grow up, it's important to have someone who's a friend. Now I also have a wife.' I was very encouraged and proud hearing that."
