Moja LOVE becomes home to Botswana drama series

Sgela will premiere on Moja LOVE next month

Moja LOVE (DStv 157) announced that it will become home to a new drama series created and shot in Botswana called Sgela, a colloquial term for school. The show is produced by Botswana award winning director and producer, Thabiso Maretlwaneng.

THE SHOW TO PREMIERE IN JULY

Sgela will premiere on Monday 17 July at 17h00 on Moja LOVE (DStv 157) and will air on Mondays and Tuesdays. The drama showcases the bull-locking of horns between daring learners, unconventional teachers and unaware parents. Launched in Gaborone today, Thabiso said it depicts social ills and behavioral changes surrounding teenagers, infused with conflict of traditional and cultural beliefs in the 21st century. This captivating drama series was filmed in Gaborone for six months during Covid-19 and the main cast features Botswana talent with 90% of the actors making their debut on screen.

EXPANDING BEYOND SA BORDERS

Co-Heads of Channel Livhuwani Dagada and Shoki Zama said, "When Moja LOVE started, the focus was on telling South African stories from the perspective of marginalised citizens - giving those voices the power to be heard. Now with the licensing of Sgela, we intend replicating and expanding this success story into Botswana and beyond. We decided to adopt an internationalization strategy with a view of taking our channel and its popular offerings beyond the borders of South Africa into the African continent. Botswana is our first choice. The future of Moja LOVE is to tell stories on a larger scale, extending beyond South Africa to neighbouring countries."
