Flash Ikumkani, whose real name is Hlumile Mangoloti from Peelton in King Williamstown was one of the artists signed to rapper Emtee's label. But his career didn't quite take off the way people anticipated. Rapper Emtee, real name Mthandeni Ndevu, is now accusing Flash of owing him the money he invested in kickstarting his career.
A friend said Emtee opened doors that Flash did not think he would enter. "Emtee didn't make him the most popular artist in the country, but in the Hip-Hop circles, he became relevant because of him," the business associate said. "Emtee invested financially in him as a label and manager should for their artist. He paid for studio time, music videos, image branding etc." Emtee confirmed that he indeed made sure he was covered as an artist.
The two parted ways two years ago, but it seems the conflict is far from over. Things took a turn when their relationship went sour. Emtee cut all ties with Flash. "They no longer work together, but Flash is still speaking badly of him. He started going around saying Emtee had done nothing for his career and that is not true." Emtee who comes from Ambitouz Entertainment, which he once accused of not paying him enough for his hard work. "He knows what it's like to be exploited, he would not do the same to artists. He knows the game and how it can be ruthless." Currently, Emtee wants the money he invested in Flash. "He needs to pay up, straight up."
Emtee recently shared on social media that the next time he sees the rapper, he will beat him up. "When I see Flash i'ma whip with a belt. I'm not letting s&*t slide. I invested in that ho* ass ni**a. Ima f&*k him up n he has to pay me." Flash said Emtee accused him of, "just leaving and being ungrateful," he said. "We agreed on a co-sign, he gave me a platform, that was the deal. I was not signed to his label. He told me at the time he was in no position to take on an artist,". Flash said he and Emtee are no longer close. "He tweeted that I was ungrateful and that was not our agreement, and I thanked him for his effort and I left. I also left because my manager who is Emtee's friend, Lebo, had passed on and I wanted to relieve him from the load."
Flash said he appreciates the work Emtee had done for him. "I learned a lot of from him- he taught me respect and the game, but I don't owe him." Emtee who was in studio when called for comment said: "I have posted everything, you can use that as my comment,".
