The police in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo have launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly poured his girlfriend with acid on her face, raped her and hacked her with a panga injuring her on the arm. The incident happened at Thokgoaneng Village in Ga-Chuene on Friday night.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the victim had visited her boyfriend at his residence when they had an argument. After the argument, the men attacked the woman and also raped her. "Following the ordeal, the suspect fled the scene. Police were notified, and they opened a case docket of rape and assault GBH. Manhunt was immediately activated to track down the suspect," Ledwaba said.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered the police investigating team to work tirelessly until the suspect is arrested. She further condemned the incident as gender- based violence is ongoing across the province. Ledwaba added that Hadebe called on community members to assist with information that can lead to the apprehension of the suspect.
