The woman who is accused of killing her niece for a R3 million insurance payout has been officially charged with the murder of her only son last year. Agnes Segomotsi Setshwantsho duped Rosemary 2.0 appeared before the Kuruman District Court in Nothern Cape yesterday on new charges. Sentshwantsho was arrested in November for murders of family members in North West in a joint operation by police and an insurance company.

KILLING HER SON FOR R6M

The state alleged that Setshwantsho fetched her son Kutlo in Cape Town where he was a student at a university for the July holidays. On their way to their home in Kuruman, Setshwantsho allegedly bought a burger for her son and laced it with poison with the intention to claim R6m policy she took out in his name. This was also revealed by the lead investigator in the case Sergeant Kheshi Mabunda last year during Setshwantsho's bail hearing at the Molopo Magistrates Court in Mafikeng. "We have records of her buying two burgers at Steers using her FNB card in Mothibistad," Mabunda said at the time. National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokoatsane the accused was charged with murder and fraud emanating from an incident, where the accused who had insured her child for R6m made an insurance claim after the passing of her child under suspicious circumstances. "The accused is remanded in custody until her next appearance on 12 March in the Kuruman Magistrates Court," he said.

DENIED BAIL

Sentshwantsho was denied bail in the two weeks ago by the Molopo Magistrates Court. State prosecutor Dalton Tshinyane argued that Setshwantsho's release on bail would undermine the administration of justice because she is a flight risk, adding that she had a family in Botswana so there was a possibility of her evading trial. Tshinyane revealed the accused had family in Botswana so there was a possibility of her evading trial.Setshwantsho, who insured more than 40 family members also has a previous conviction of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) from more than 20 years ago. Police are also investigating her as a prime suspect in the murder of her husband and two daughters.
